Luan Is On The F-Team
We’re excited to welcome Luan Grobbelaar to the F-Team! Born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa, the individual medley specialist moved to New Zealand in 2017 and has now joined the Swim Dunedin & Neptune Swim Club in Dunedin.
Luan competed at the 2017 and 2019 World Junior Championships, the 2017 Youth Commonwealth Games, the 2018 Commonwealth Games, the 2022 World Short Course Championships and the 2023 World Championships in Fukuoka. Since April 2023 he has been a proud Aquablack training under Lars Humer.

Luan has big goals for 2024, with Olympic Trials just a few weeks away, he hopes to be booking his ticket to Paris although 2028 is just as much a target. But above all Luan states,
“I want to be a good ambassador for my country and sport and mentoring young kids across all demographics to enjoy swimming.”
Away from the pool, Luan continues his love of speed with his interest in cars and planes.
"I love cars. So every opportunity I get to go to car meet-ups, test drive new cars on the market, I take it. I do also love flying. In 2023 I took 98 flights nationally and internationally."
It might help explain why Luan will be studying a Bachelor of Aviation (BAv) at Massey University. Not just a pretty face!
Good luck to Luan for New Zealand Olympic Trials and we are stoked to have him on board as a Funky Trunks athlete.
