Q&A with a World Record Holder

The night before 16 year old Funkita athlete Summer McIntosh set a new World Record we challenged Funkettes around the world to send in their best questions for Summer to answer. In between setting a new World Record and prepping for her next race, Summer took the time to choose some of her favourite questions. Here's what Summer had to say to the lucky winners!

@claregeraghty: What was your favorite thing about representing Canada at the Tokyo Olympics?"
Summer: I was so proud to represent Canada at the Tokyo Olympics. Canada is an incredible country full of culture and class and it was an honour to wear the maple leaf at the pool, but also outside of the pool. It's overwhelming how loved Canadians are by all.

@athina169: If you had to choose a sport to play, other than swimming, what would it be?
Summer: If I was not able to swim I think I would be a runner. I really like the objectivity of a timed sport and racing side by side with your competitors.

@heidi.strauss: What is your favourite post-swim snack to combat swim hunger? Summer: My favourite post-swim snack is a big smoothie with fresh orange juice and frozen mango, pineapple and strawberries! Absolutely delicious and everyone should try it!

@carolyn.garrison.90: What is the biggest decision you have to make regarding your event program for Paris 2024?
Summer: I love the challenge of being a multi-event swimmer and plan on taking on a considerable line-up of events in Paris, but most importantly making sure it is fun too!

@lgs_219053: Congratulations for all that you have achieved at such a young age and for representing Canada so positively!! What has been your proudest accomplishment thus far ? Either (or both) Athletic and Personal? Keep up the great work!
Summer: My proudest accomplishment yet was setting a world record in the 400m freestyle in my home town in front of a home crowd. It was unexpected which made it extra special touching the wall.

The Twisted One Piece is another go-to for Summer!

@brydee_reid10: How often do you train per week, and what do you usually prefer to train?
Summer: I typically train in the water 9 times per week between 90 to 120 minutes each session. I embrace training all the strokes and thrive on variety! I prefer mid-distance training and rarely do sprint or distance based practices.

@katie1awrence: Favorite practice suit?
Summer: This is a great question as each season I pick out one suit I put on for the extra special practice during the week. My favourite Funkitas has been my Zee Zee Top Single Strength One Piece, but from the new collection I'm going to be wearing Rocky Wave in the Twisted One Piece. I love the neon straps!

@kellydraper4: Super excited to watch you this week!! Do you like swimming indoors or outdoors better?
Summer: I have always loved the great outdoors, so I prefer outside training with lots of fresh air and more of a wide open concept. I prefer racing backstroke indoors as I tend to swim very crooked backstroke outdoors and hit the lane lines a lot, but I am working on it!
