
F-Teamers Shine on the Mare Nostrum Tour
Not only was the weather warm, but the racing was hot in Barcelona and Canet for the final legs of the 2022 Mare Nostrum Tour.
On the second stop of the tour, in Barcelona, Lara Van Niekerk found herself on the podium in the women’s 50m Breaststroke as she picked up a silver medal. F-teamer Imogen Clark finished 5th, just 0.3 seconds behind in a time of 30.67. Three days later, in Canet, Lara bettered her 50m Breaststroke time winning silver in a time of 30.25.

Mona McSharry of Ireland, usually known for her speed, had a fantastic swim in Barcelona in the women’s 200m Breaststroke. She clocked a time of 2.25.58 to finish in second, just 0.5 seconds shy of her personal best time. Mona backed this up in Canet with another podium finish winning bronze in 2:26.80.

World and Team England qualifier Freya Colbert was a double finalist in both the 200m and 400m Freestyle in Barelona. Finishing 7th in the 400 on day 1, she went one better to finish in 6th in a stacked 200m Freestyle final.
Team Funky Trunks also had stand outs in Barcelona. Daniel Wiffen showed strength in the men’s 800m Freestyle winning bronze in a time of 7.55.16, breaking the 8minute barrier once again. He backed up his performance in the 400m Freestyle swimming 3.51 in both the heat and final. Young gun Jacob Whittle, at just 17, finished 6th in the men’s 100m Freestyle in a time of 49.38.
