Funkita F-Teamers keen to race at Edinburgh International

Things are heating up over in the UK. It’s already March and nerves are running high with the British and Irish Champs on the horizon. Eighteen of our F-Teamers are set to compete in this week’s Edinburgh International meet from March 11 to 13, with this meet being a critical stop on the UK racing calendar.

For most of our UK-based athletes, this is the final pit-stop prior to the British (April 5-10) and Irish (April 19-23) Trials. These trials will dictate selection onto senior teams for numerous international competitions this year, including the July/August Commonwealth Games.

Edinburgh International is renowned for attracting many of British Swimming and Europe’s most talented swimmers, and this time around there appears to be no exception. Big name F-Teamers include Katie Shanahan and Tain Bruce, and they’re set to be in the thick of the action for numerous battles across an action-filled weekend. This leg of the competition calendar was preceded by last month’s Dave McCullagh International Meet held in Bangor, Ireland, for a few of the F-Teamers.

Tain is looking forward to racing in her home town.

Tain Bruce is one of four F-Teamers based out of the University of Edinburgh, and says it’s an important “home event” for her and her squad mates. “I am Edinburgh born and raised! I’ve done this meet for as long as I can remember. This competition is the last unrested meet before Commonwealth Games Trials so I am looking forward to racing hard and seeing where I’m at before we taper off.”

Katie Shanahan is also a veteran of the Edinburgh International, having competed at the meet for the last ten years. “I only missed 2021 because the meet wasn’t held.” Like many of our top swimmers, Katie is simply keen to just race after a quiet couple of years, saying “I’m looking forward to some long course racing since there hasn’t been very much due to COVID.”

Stay tuned to our socials as the F-Team converge in Edinburgh, to get their foot in the door for some fast 2022 racing.

F-Teamers in action are Evan Bailey, Tain Bruce, Imogen Clark, Leah Crisp, Maisie Elliot, Charlotte Evans, Mark Ford, Sophie Freeman, Scott Gibson, Katie Goodburn, Honey Osrin, Georgina Pryor, Ciara Schlosshan, Katie Shanahan, Mia Slevin, Jacob Whittle, Daniel Wiffen and Nathan Wiffen.
