Ethan is the Funky Trunks F-Team Apprentice!

We know how much hard work and dedication it takes to reach the top of any sport and here at Funky Trunks we love being able to support aspiring young swimmers on their journey.  To help us find our newest addition to the Funky Trunks F-Team we recently launched the F-Team Apprentice Program on social media and were overwhelmed with the number and quality of the applications that came rolling in across our Instagram and Facebook accounts.

Out of all these applications, that of Ethan Owens, a 17 year old distance swimmer from South Australia, stood out from the pack and he now joins current Commonwealth Games representatives Jayden Hadler and Travis Mahoney on the Funky Trunks F-Team for the next six months.

Ethan trains under Jill Doyle at the Clovercrest Swimming Club in Adelaide and his typical week consists of 10 two-hour pool sessions as well as two gym sessions a week, resulting in about 60-70km of swimming! Ethan holds a scholarship with the South Australian Sports Institute (SASI) and recently collected silver medals in both the 17-18 yrs 1500m freestyle at Age Nationals and the 17-18 yrs 5km at Open Water Nationals as well as a bronze in the 17-18yrs 10km event.  Ethan is gearing his training toward the National Shortcourse Championships in November which although they will be conveniently held in Adelaide this year, they are inconveniently taking place during his Year 12 exams!

With a motivation to prove his worth to those who have doubted him in the past, Ethan is looking forward to the competition schedule of pool and open water meets over summer before the three major national competitions of Open Water Nationals, Open Nationals and Age Nationals early next year. Judging by his medal haul over the last 12 months in distance swims we are very excited to see how he does.

With his athlete pack of trunks, caps, shorts, t-shirts and undies, there is no doubt that Ethan will be looking the goods at training.  And on race day he can step up on the blocks (or into the lake!) in his Funky Trunks APEX Performance Jammers to help him win his next title.
